     –

And there’s a prize for the best dressed attendee…so book now and get planning!

You are invited to witness, experience, and take part in a unique night of folk dance fusion!

Kicking off with the new Folk Dance Remixed performance, Step Hop House is a fresh, quirky, colourful and magical collision of of traditional and hip hop dance and music. This high-energy show is a unique remix of maypole, clogging, ceilidh, street, house and breakdance, with a hint of African and Bollywood set to a live soundtrack of fiddle, bass, percussion and beat boxing. This is folk and street dance like you’ve never seen it before!

The show is followed by a Ceilidh Jam that will get you on your feet for a funked up, unique, folky, social dance! Using traditional callers to teach, artistic directors Kerry Fletcher and Natasha Khamjani will be mixing folk formations, street dance, legendary moves and freestyle grooves from the soul train line to lucky 7, strip the willow to the electric slide… As well as the performance, there will be a pre-show workshop creating wraps ‘n’ ripples mixed with waves ‘n’ breaks – a funky routine, mixed with classic maypole moves.

Check out the rest of the Autumn programme at Cecil Sharp House too.

  • Olympic Success!

Wow! We had a fantastic weekend at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 8-9 August 2015!

Thanks to East London Dance, we curated our own festival as part of Go East Fest! and took over the fountain stage with Step Hop House, Street Dance the Maypole workshops and Ceilidh Jams.

We also invited Corey Baker Dance to join us with their Maori dance and Haka workshops.

Thanks to Tilly Rose Eames for this great shot of the maypole in action!
