• Festival of Thetford & Punjab – with Folk Dance Remixed!

We had a great time on Saturday 21st July working with Essex Cultural Diversity Project at the grand finale of their Festival of Thetford and Punjab.

We joined in the procession through King Street along to Butten Island and the statue of Maharajah Duleep Singh, and then along the Little Ouse river.

The event was an exciting multi-cultural programme in partnership with Thetford Town Council River Festival, featuring the UK’s leading tradtional Punjbi Dance Troupe Jugnu Bhangra Dancers, Folk Dance Remixed, Local Morris dance groups, King Gurcharan Mall Dhol Blasters, Rani Giddha Female Dancers, Ghatka Punjabi Sikh Martial Arts, as well as storytelling by Seema Anand, Indian food stall, henna hand painting.

  • Keeping us on the road…

Folk Dance Remixed survives through the fees from gigs and workshops, grants from funding bodies and donations from the public – people like you! We are striving to keep our multi talented, diverse, energetic, dedicated family on the road with our belief in the importance of creating spaces where people come together, share their traditions and
bring out the best in each other. Our work has social cohesion at the core – exploring how people from different starting points and with different cultural expressions can come together in joy, passion, excitement – and infect everyone with a bit of fun!

We really do need your help in keeping us on the road. Times are getting harder for arts organisations, dancers, musicians, tech crews and choreographers. Any support you can give us will be hugely appreciated, and ploughed back in the Folk Dance Remixed project.

We’ve launched a Folk Dance Remixed Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. So please take a couple of minutes to have a listen…. thank you.

Our friends at Appetite have made a lovely video showcasing their Bentilee event – and Folk Dance Remixed right at the heart of it! Enjoy!

  • Thank You!

A huge Thank You! to all those who supported our crowd funding campaign in 2017!

We made our target, and you’ve helped us to keep on creating some funky folky fun and joy to unleash on you at a later date!

  • September Mania!

Always a busy month – September sees Folk Dance Remixed galvanised for action all over the country. We’re fresh (and still a bit damp) from Greenman festival in Wales, and beginning to pack up the kit to bring our funked up folkiness over to Kendal in Cumbria on 9th and 10th September.

We’re really looking forward to our trip up to the Lake District. We’ve been hatching and brewing our contribution to the wonderful Lakes Alive festival with Festival Producer, Netty Miles. Do come and find us. Check out out about everything they have on offer (and there’s a lot!).

And then we’re delighted to be returning to Tottenham Ploughman RiverFest on Saturday 16th September. We did workshops there last year, and have been invited back to do the full Step Hop House show and workshops again for 2017. Isn’t that just lovely? We’d like to give a big thank you to the dedicated duo Glynis and Cheryl who are making it all happen.

Our last outing for 2017 is at the fantastic Festival of Thrift, organised by Stella Hall and her team. This is in Kirkleatham, in Redcar, and is shaping up to be an extraordinary coming together of artists, stalls, makers, doers, speakers and participants focussed on environmental themes and creativity. We can’t wait!

And if that wasn’t enough – we need to raise £1000 in September too! We will have a crowdfunding campaign on the go throughout the month. This is to raise some funds which we need to match against our Arts Council England (ACE) grant. ACE fund a percentage of our costs, but we also need to raise money ourselves too. So – please watch out for our Facebook posts in September, and check our website too, and see how you can support us. Every £1 helps keeping us creating!

    All the best,

    Natasha, Kerry and Frances
